Why Arent We Allowed to Mod Minecraft Windows 10 Edition
If you mean to get mods and shaders on Windows 10 Edition (the one you get from the Microsoft Store) then that's impossible. The only mod support for Windows 10 Edition is Behaviourpacks and whatever from the marketplace (resource packs, skins, worlds, etc.) not Forge mods, shaders or anything of that kind on Curseforge.
If you mean on Windows 10 using Java Edition then I can help you with that.
1.Download Java from it's official site here: https://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp (Minecraft has it's own but Forge can't use it). I go the 64bit offline personally but choose which you need depending on if your Computer has less than 4GB of RAM (then go 32bit, the offline one that doesn't say 64bit on it) or more than 4GB then go with 64bit.
2.Download Forge from it's official site here: https://files.minecraftforge.net/ and look for the version of Minecraft you want to install it for. Mods are version specific (unlike Steam workshop) and so is Forge, so look at the mods you want first then get Forge for that version. Sometimes they can work across versions but this is not always the case so make sure to stick with 1 version (yes even if it's .2 or .3, 1 version only) You can Forge for multiple versions and run multiple versions as modded though if you want mods for 1.15.2 and 1.16.3 or 1.16.1 and 1.16.2 but you need Forge installed for those versions, not using the 1.16.3 version thinking it will work on 1.16.1.
3.You can get mods on Curseforge here: https://www.curseforge.com/minecraft/mc-mods?filter-game-version=&filter-sort=2 (the safest place to get them, never look at mod repost sites like 9Minecraft or any others, there is a list of 1000s that host mods illegally [as you can see here: https://stopmodreposts.org/sites.html] while Curseforge is a safe place and where Mod Devs officially upload their mods). If you see mods for Fabric make sure to ignore those if you only after Forge ones as Fabric is another modloader (yes 2 modloaders have exists on many versions and Forge is not the only modloader)
4.To install Forge double click the Jar file and a window will appear. Select the 'client' option and if you ok with the default location it will install it to, just click install. Let it do it's thing and wait until it's done and said it got a few libraries. Once that's done hit ok and go to your launcher. If your launcher has a Forge profile then good, if not go to the 'Installations' tab and select Forge from the dropdown list of versions. If you want 1.12.2 and before then go to the 1.0 versions as they just appear there (I don't know why) but for 1.13+ versions of Forge they appear where 1.13 and 1.16 versions would be.
5.Load the Forge profile to make sure it does it's thing and readys the version to be playable. You don't have to do this but it's best to do so for the first time. Once it loads correctly with Forge in the bottom left then you know it's correctly installed.
6.Next is to put mods into the mods folder. The easiest way to do this is to go to your successfully modded game or an unmodified and then find the resource packs menu. In there select the left button in the bottom left. A window will appear, this is the resource packs folder. Go up a folder to .minecraft. then look for a mods folder. Forge can create one but if it doesn't you can create one by just creating a new folder and naming it 'mods' with no capitals. Put the mods in there. Now with 1.12.2 and before mods they can load inside another folder, but 1.13+ versions mods have to be in the mods folder, not a deeper folder. I'm pointing this out as if you want to have multiple versions and want things to be loaded or put in folders to clean up (as mods from multiple versions will have the game confused and conflict/crash). So best to keep this in mind.
7.Load the game up with the Forge profile now that the mods are in the folder and see what happens. If the game loads to the splash screen then your successful, if not post the crash report, look for if the mod needs a library or API (you can check this by clicking on the file to the right of the curseforge mod page to see the changelog (any bug fixes/new content added in updates) and what mods are required to allow the mod to work. Libraries/API have specific code required for mods to work or for multiple mods to use. If you can't work out with that in mind just move mods into the mod folder 1 by 1 to see which is causing a problem. It's what I do when making modpacks all the time, it's tedious but works to find that one giving me trouble. Otherwise just post crash reports in the comments on Curseforge and see if the Mod Dev can help you.
That should be the basics and a few tips. Good luck. If you need any other help just ask.
